What Is Tummy Tuck?
A tummy tuck, or abdominoplasty, is one of the most transformative body contouring procedures available. It removes excess abdominal skin and fat, and — critically — repairs the separated or weakened abdominal muscles (diastasis recti) that no amount of exercise can correct.
Whether your concerns stem from pregnancy, massive weight loss, or simply the passage of time, a tummy tuck creates a flatter, firmer abdominal contour. Dr. Frew uses refined techniques to position incisions discreetly and achieve the most natural-looking result possible.
Schedule Your ConsultationIdeal Candidates
- You have excess abdominal skin that does not respond to diet or exercise
- You have separated abdominal muscles (diastasis recti) following pregnancy
- You have a persistent "pooch" or apron of skin below the navel
- You are at a stable weight — not planning significant weight loss or pregnancy
- You are a non-smoker (smoking significantly impairs healing)
- You are in good general health without conditions that impair wound healing
The Process
Incision Planning
An incision is placed low across the abdomen — typically within the bikini line — to ensure the scar remains hidden. A second incision around the navel is made if needed.
Muscle Repair
Dr. Frew sutures the separated abdominal muscles back to the midline, creating an internal corset that flattens and tightens the entire abdominal wall.
Skin Removal & Repositioning
Excess skin is removed and the remaining skin is redraped over the tightened abdomen. The navel is repositioned to a natural location.
Closure
Incisions are closed in layers. Drains are typically placed to manage fluid for the first 1–2 weeks. A compression garment is applied.

Full Results
3–6 months
- Patients walk slightly bent at the waist for the first few days — this is normal and expected
- Drains are removed at 1–2 weeks when output is sufficiently low
- A compression garment is worn for 4–6 weeks
- Lifting anything over 10 lbs is restricted for 6 weeks
- Swelling continues to improve for 3–6 months before final results are visible
