What Is Breast Reduction?
Breast reduction — or reduction mammaplasty — removes excess breast fat, glandular tissue, and skin to achieve a size that is more proportionate to your body. Beyond aesthetics, the procedure is often chosen to relieve the physical burden of overly large breasts, including chronic neck, shoulder, and back pain.
Dr. Frew customizes the extent of reduction and the resulting shape to your goals, frame, and lifestyle, aiming for breasts that are lighter and better proportioned — without compromising a natural contour.

- You experience chronic neck, shoulder, or back pain related to breast size and weight
- You have bra-strap grooving or chronic skin irritation beneath the breasts
- Your breast size limits physical activity or causes self-consciousness
- You are at a stable, healthy weight
- You have completed childbearing and breastfeeding, or understand that future pregnancies may affect results
- You are a non-smoker or willing to quit before and after surgery
The Process
Assessment & Planning
Dr. Frew evaluates your breast size, tissue composition, and goals — including how much volume to remove and where to reposition the nipple-areola complex — to design a personalized surgical plan.
Tissue & Skin Reduction
Excess breast tissue, fat, and skin are carefully removed to reduce overall volume and weight while preserving the vascular and nerve supply to the nipple whenever possible.
Reshaping & Nipple Repositioning
The remaining breast tissue is reshaped into a proportionate, lifted contour, and the nipple-areola complex is repositioned to a natural, youthful location.
Closure
Incisions are closed meticulously in layers, typically in an anchor or lollipop pattern depending on the degree of reduction needed. Scar placement is planned to be as discreet as possible.
